Longitudinal Stent Deformation (LSD)

Gregor Leibundgut

Key Learning Points: Longitudinal compression is a significant risk, especially in ostial/bifurcation lesions. Underexpanded, poorly apposed stents are more prone to deformation. Promus Element's 2-connector design compromises longitudinal strength. Post-dilation and re-crossing can cause compression without adequate lesion preparation. Proper sizing, pre/post-dilation, and imaging can prevent complications. Design balance between flexibility and mechanical stability is critical.
